July 18, 2016 Last Mission Letter

07/18/2016
Hello! Family and friends!

It's come down to the last week of my mission, it's been a good

run! I've enjoyed it, learned a lot, and made some great friends. The

lord blessed me with an action packed, extremely busy area to work in

these past six months, and I've really appreciated it. I recently got

to see a couple (now lifelong) friends be baptized and take the step

to coming closer to Christ, and it was a huge benefit for me. My

belief of this Church has increased as I see others pushed towards it

by some unseen force, namely- the Holy Ghost. I'm amazed at how many

people don't believe in God anymore, he's quiet, but he's pretty

obvious sometimes haha. It just takes a sincere desire to know, and

you will come to know God.

I'll just fill my last email home with some of the big things

I've learned.

- I've learned that I need to rely on God if I want to make it

through life spiritually sound. Simply put, if I don't receive

strength from Christ, I alone am too weak to resist temptation, and

will eventually fall. I am not exaggerating, when I ask for him to

help me, I feel his help, and I'm capable and confident. When I don't,

I'm staggered by the amount of crap ol Satin throws at me, and even in

my good situation as a missionary I start doubting whether I will be

tough enough. I don't know if God is just making it super clear that I

always need to remember him or what, but I've learned that I

absolutely need him 100%. I've also realized how much help he's given

me in the past, even though I didn't realize it at the time. He's

always given me help, even when I didn't deserve it or recognize it.

-Follow the spirit. EVERYONE feels the spirit differently. I've

started to understand how I hear God on my mission. I'm slightly OCD,

so sometimes I'll just have random thoughts that I think are the

spirit. I used to think that I always needed to act on all those

random little thoughts, but that resulted in me doing a bunch of dumb

stuff with no results and feeling stupid. My mission president helped

me see that thoughts from the Holy Ghost will feel different. I think

of how I feel when I'm in a lesson. I feel the spirit working with me

to help me know what our pupil needs to know at the time. He doesn't

replace my thoughts, he just helps me to think clearer and really

focus. He gives me great ideas and helps me to think on the next

level. This is how I feel spirit. Everyone needs to come to know how

they feel it.

-Remember. It's crazy how often we forget spiritual things. If

we don't write down our experiences, we forget them. CPR stands for

Church, Prayer, and Reading. These things will spiritually save our

lives.

- The last thing I'll mention, and in my opinion, the most

important thing we can do in this life is to Develop a Personal

Relationship with Father in Heaven. My relationship has improved, and

I talk to him like an actual person now, but it's not where I'd like

it to be yet. I'll have to keep working on it for the rest of my life.

A relationship with God takes work, but I know he and his Son are

always absolutely ready to lend us support, and give us guidance.

Well, I'm grateful for my mission. I'm what they call a proud

Christian. I share with you all my testimony that Jesus Christ

actually exists. He's not an abstract idea, set in place to give us a

nice way to live. He's a real person, a perfect being, who loved us

enough to die for us. I feel his strength when I ask for it, and

that's how I know he's there. His key characteristic is charity. He

never thinks about himself, his whole goal is help others, and that's

how we need to eventually become.

I hope everyone has a great week! Lots of love from Elder Rosenbalm

Weekly Email

Hello family and friends! It's been another great week, very busy,
lots to do. We did service and had lessons, along with a couple fun
finding opportunities!

So we were at a little family diner in St John's, when 3 Catholic
Pastors walked in. Naturally, my curiosity was piqued, and after
resisting the temptation for a couple minutes, I whipped around and
said hello. Well they turned out to be a real friendly, even if a bit
overly studious, group of chubby Catholic men . I asked them all about
their weird points like praying to saints and paying to be forgiven of
sins etc. they actually had much better answers then I expected, very
interesting! I love learning about other religions. Well, after wetalked for a bit, one of them got up and paid for our meal.
This week we did some hardcore Service for Sandy & Jimmy. For Jimmy,

we put up some stairs on his front porch. For Sandy we helped her to

work on her house, she's actually really self reliant, there are just

some heavy/ high stuff that she needs help with. Well we slapped that

place up real quick, it looks awesome. I'm amazed at how resourceful

some people are. They don't have a lot of stuff, but they really make

some sweet stuff with the things they have.

Our boys Vic and Travis are doing pretty great, we see them every week

at church and sports, + a lesson. Our goal is for them to be baptized

The beginning of next month, we will see how it goes though!

Crystal and Doreen are doing great, they had a goal to be baptized

this month, but we pushed it back to next month. They still need to

quit smoking and come to church a bit more. They are super kind

though, we are excited for them to be sealed, they really want it.

Spiritual Thought: so you can actually feel the spirit speaking

though people. It's actually not that hard to to tell if someone has

the spirit of doesn't. As the Catholic priest was teaching us this

week, it felt more like school then church. I've grown up with people

being filled with the spirit, teaching with the spirit, and testifying

with the spirit. NOw that I had the opportunity to listen to someone

without that spirit, the difference is very obvious. Galatians 5

teaches that the "the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,

longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance:

against such there is no law." These are the things that we will feel

in those who have the spirit. These are the attributes that we will

find in all true followers of Christ. I'm grateful that we have the

spirt to help us distinguish between right and wrong.

Hope everyone has a great week! Love Elder Rosenbalm

From Vivien

Dear Sister:  Just to catch you up with all that has been going on here in Concho.
Well my Baptizm went wonderful much more joy and happiness then I expected.  It was wonderful to be baptized by my husband and to have you son and Elder Goodenough be such a wonderful part of it.  You have a great child in Elder Rosenbalm.  The readings, songs and many of the people that spoke gave me tears.  Wish you could have been there.  Of course the Elders loved the refreshments and goodies after.  It was so special for me to have them all there.  I gave my first testimony and cried again.

I will send pictures fromJim's email as he took the pictures.

Well the next wonderful thing Jim's sons my steps have decided to be baptized also.  They wanted to do it while your son was here.  Elder Rosenbalm's mission is almost over and he has done a wonderful job with our sons.  They boys have requested that he do their baptizm and it will take place on the 7th of this month.   I am overjoyed that they have made this decision.  I know it will change their lives.

Well we had a great vacation in San Diego- the boys and our granddaughter Sofia had never seen the ocean so off we went.  They had a ball in the waves and we all enjoyed getting wet at Sea World. Some of my family is in California, San Francisco area but I myself had never been to southern California.  It was a treat for us all.  Unfortunately, I came back to have some suregery for which both Elders gave me a blessing.  Well the good part is I have time to catch up on my writing while I am in bed( sort of) It is not easy for me to be still.

How are you all.  Is home schooling coming along for Rosey's brothers.  If there is anything I can send that can help them please let me know.

You will have your son back very soon.  I will always keep him and your family in my prayers.  Sister Vivien  the picture is from Vic's graduation and I didn't remember if i sent it to you before.
love to all and Peace to you all Vivien McCool

Weekly Update
June 20th, 2016

Real great week guys! Real great week. The fun part is that we
have had some massive fires eating up thousands of acres of forest
around us. Right now, there are currently three burning. This whole
week Show Low has been ready to evacuate, should the fire get too
close. It got within a half mile of the evac trigger point on
Wednesday, and we were kinda hoping that it would trigger, because
then a bunch of missionaries would come crash at our place. Missionary
get-togethers are a ton of fun and usually last deep into the night. I
got some nice pics of the fire which I will include. Also, one of our
members bought us a high powered spotlight that we have been using on
various elk and rabbits. I'm pretty sure it scares the crap out of the
elk when our big noisy truck skids to a stop right next to them, a
massive beam of light suddenly blasting through the night into their
faces haha. We can't hunt them on our missions, so this is as close as
we get.

We had a couple of rad service opportunities this week. We rebuilt a
porch and helped on a house. Those were a lot of fun, I like seeing
the results of our work, when it comes to building, we get everything
looking real, real nice.

We also had a temple trip this week, which was OK.... I really
should have just stepped out and done baptisms though, because I
pretty much sleeper through the entire endowment. Whenever anyone
would stand up, I'd always be like a second behind them because I had
fallen asleep again hahah, good thing I was in the back right corner.
#theplacetobe

Alright, spiritual / controversial thought. Enjoy,Everyone stresses
being obedient so much on the mission, and for
the first chunk of my mission, I worked very hard and was nazi for the
rules. I felt (because it had been drilled into me) that if I worked
Hard and was obedient, I would see miracles. Well, I believed that.
And true, I did see miracles. For my first 6ish months I saw and felt
the lords hand guiding me. But over the years (literally) I noticed
that many disobedient missionaries were having much more baptisms /
miracles then many obedient missionaries. Weird. According to what
everyone had told me, that shouldn't be the case. So I thought about
it. I had to take a look at the positive attributes of the so called
"disobedient" missionaries, and not just focus on their shortcomings.
No, they didn't follow all the mission rules and they certInly weren't
as dignified or "gospel Einstein" as other "obedient" missionaries
were. But they had attributes that I think outweighed their negatives.
They had Faith. They were confident in their testimony of Christ. They
had been through a lot of hard times and had seen more of life then
some of us kids from Utah. I learned that the Lord cares a lot more
about the things he mentioned in the bible, Eg. Faith, hope, charity,
humility, then he does about a couple "letter-of-the-law" little
pieces of code we are supposed to follow. I still follow the rules,
but I don't really care about them anymore haha. I want to be
obedient, but It's because I want to follow Christ, not because I want
to fit the mold and "get baptisms". (I don't like that Phrase...)
Honestly, we talk about baptizing people like its a meaningless
statistic sometimes.  We emphasize the WORK portion of faith but in
our culture we never really emphasis the BELIEVE portion of faith. If
we don't BELIEVE first, then we are as the Pharisees, hollow and
hypocritical. (Paul went so far as to say that "Abraham believed God,
and it was counted unto him for righteousness." (Now, I'm still a
little iffy on Paul because some of the stuff he says seems to
contradict Jesus)) So, in conclusion, it's important to be obedient,
but it's even more important to believe, trust, and rely on God. "If
ye love me, keep my commandments", absolutely, but how do we love
someone we don't even believe in?

Well, I BELIVE in Jesus Christ and because I do, I also WORK for him.
I'm pretty sure that's how it's supposed to go. I've always believed
in him and I'll do my best to do work for him for the rest of my life.
Amen.

Weekly Update

Wow guys! It was an awesome week, lots of great progress. I
played Organ in church again this Sunday, scary stuff. My leg was
shaking way bad because I was all nervous, but I think I pulled it off
with minimal mistakes. We also moved 10,000 pounds of hay, along with
other worthwhile service activities. All in all, a very productive
week.

Highlight! Vivien was baptized by her husband, Jim! Very
exciting! It was a great baptism, awesome turnout and blessed with the
presence of the Holy Spirit. The service was preformed very well. As
Vivien was coming up out of the water, she was just laughing and
smiling, she was very happy. After she was baptized, she shared her
testimony with all of us. During her testimony of Jesus Christ, she
started crying and frustratedly exclaimed, "man! Now you guys have got
me crying like a Mormon!" Haha, she used to always get annoyed by the
ladies in testimony meeting who just blubber over the podium for 15
minutes, but now she understands it a little more. After the service
we had treats etc. on Sunday she was confirmed a member, and given a
very nice blessing by our Branch President, Milo. She says that it was
more wonderful then she thought it would be, and she says that she's
still glowing today haha. Now we are going to transition our efforts
to Travis and Victor. With luck, we will get them glowing in the next
few months.

We have made some super progress with Crystal and Doreen this
week. We stopped by a couple times to see them. We talked about the
gospel and how it would help them. Crystal had such a hard life.
Doreen has been so lonely since her husband died a year ago. I was so
happy for Vivien to be baptized, but in a way, it will be even bigger
for Crystal and Doreen. Vivien was already close to God and knew good
people.  Vivien benefited and will continue to benefit from the
restored gospel, but for Crystal and Doreen it will change their lives
monumentally. They have no idea how much the church's infrastructure
of service and family is going to impact their lives right now. They
still have a goal to be baptized at the end of this month. We are
working with them now to quit smoking and make the changes they need
to to be ready for baptism. They came to church this Sunday, they
could only stay for like 30 mins because Crystal started to get dizzy
and stuff. Very excited for them!

Well, this is my last transfer team. I've got a little over
a Month left on my mission, it's been real. I'm still with elder
Goodenough in Concho/Vernon, and will end here with him. That means
only 5 emails left, a bittersweet realization. I'm focusing on
focusing for the last little while. I've worked hard and kicked butt
my whole mission, so I'm going to finish up that way. #enduretotheend

Spiritual thought: Mosiah 4:17-23. Man is scripture is so sweet,
King Benjamin completely lays down the law. He pretty much tells us
that if we judge others for their shortcomings, we will be thrust down
to hell. We CANNOT look down on people due to race, gender, social
status, economic standing, popularity, or intelligence. Actually, we
have no right to look down on anyone for anything. I'm so bad at this,
but I'm trying to get better. King B. makes it pretty clear that if I
want to have any "interest in the kingdom of heaven," which I do, I
need to repent. Working on it.

Hope everyone has a great week! Love Elder Rosenbalm

     Weekly Update

Hello family and friends! It's been another great week, here In the middle of nowhere, beloved Concho. Great news! We got our own gun store! That's awesome for the economy, just one step closer to the thriving metropolis this town was always meant to be. We tried
stopping by the morning to buy some knives and show our support to the community, but they were closed... Sunday's and Monday's closed, who knew.

Vivien's getting baptized this Saturday! It's all coming together so well, we are very happy and excited for her. We are going to have bucket loads of refreshments along with great Catholic hymns and some cowboy Speakers. Very exciting! And, what's great about it too, is that her Husband Jim is going to baptize her. Jim hasn't been active for long, so this is a big step for him! Also, when Victor and Travis see her get baptized, hopefully they will have a bigger desire to be baptized as well. Awesome! Very happy for them.

Real great visit + a miracle with Crystal and Doreen this week
. Crystal is about 40 and Doreen is about 60. Doreen is the sweetest lady, but is fragile due to a broken neck. Crystal had a meth infused childhood and abusive parents. She now lives with her Stepmom, Doreen, and has found the Lord after a decade in prison. She always hated the life she grew up in but never had a chance to leave it until her spout in jail. Anyways, we have been teaching them for a month or two now, off and on. Crystal has been reading the BOM and so far, she says her answer from God is "Keep Reading". Well, Tuesday morning we headed out on a 40 minute drive to get to their house. We set the Lesson up with Doreen, so Crystal had no idea we were coming. Crystal had been having a hard week, with friends taking advantage of her and expensive car problems. She was feeling very low, and she remembered us and the invitations we had given her. (she had recently finished the BOM as well) She said that she prayed intense with so much faith, she said, " Lord, I need to know right now if this is what you want me to do for the rest of my life. I need you to send them right now if this is where you want me to go." Well right after she said her prayer, Doreen called her over and asked her to get the gate for the missionaries. She was pretty ecstatic when we saw her, she literally jumped up and down with a big grin on her face haha. It was very nice of the Lord to set that up for us!

I'm grateful for the opportunity to be a missionary and help out Jesus. I got to bear my testimony in church this Sunday, I just talked about the Savior. I think its kinda pointless when people ramble on for 20 minutes about their feelings on Family History, our focus needs to always be Jesus, especially when we are bearing testimony. It really stands out to me when in the Doctrine and Covenants Jesus calls Joseph and the Apostles his "Friends"- 84:63. Man, I hope to someday be called a friend by Jesus Christ. I'm definitely a sinner, but so were the apostles. I think that the things Christ looks for in his friends are Faith, Charity, Hope, etc. He cares that we keep on trying, even though we will mess up. I don't think that he focuses too much on our mistakes and failures, he's more of the encouraging type. I'm grateful to serve him, and I hope to someday be called his friend.

Hope everyone has a great week! Love Elder Rosenbalm
